Open, depicts pomegranates that have been cut with the seeds spilling out into an undefined space. The pieces are a statement on vulnerability and how we allow ourselves to be perceived. The pieces are sensual, bordering on romantic even. The dripping pomegranate seeds, reminiscent of an anatomical drawing, are symbolic of the beauty of sharing part of ourselves with others. Cutting the fruit is symbolic of the individual rending their heart asunder to be vulnerable. We view vulnerability as weakness, when in reality it’s a chance for us to grow and evolve. Through layers and layers of carefully placed oil paint, I build a narrative on the power of opening up. When people see the series I hope it inspires them to trust a little more and put more of themselves into the world without fear of rejection.
