Coral

Distort (angle #2), Mixed Media Installation, December 2023.jpg

Turning over a piece of coral in my hand, I am instantly transported to a small microcosm within the delicate structure. The lace-like appearance and stony texture fill me with awe as I glimpse the magnificent details present. Focusing on the beauty of organic forms and patterns within my oil paintings, I aim to reveal the inherent beauty in the natural systems that surround us, recreating the sense of wonder experienced when immersed in nature.

Employing a research and process-driven methodology, my work responds to the ecosystems around me, preserved collections in museums, and research conducted by marine biologists. By gathering information from these sources, I translate my sense of awe and gained knowledge into abstracted biomorphic paintings and site specific installations. Through the artwork, I capture the essence of my subjects and grapple with themes related to curiosity, introspection, and environmental awareness.
